AROSA 7 Night
Cruising the Rhone to the Mediterranean

DAY 1: Lyon

You'll join your elegant A-ROSA ship in enchanting Lyon today. This culture-rich city is framed perfectly by the Rhone and Saône rivers which wend their way gracefully through the centre. Discover secret passageways used by 19th century silk weavers in the atmospheric and UNESCO-listed old town, Vieux Lyon, tuck into mouth-watering regional gastronomy in bustling bistros and admire fine arts in the magnificent Renaissance abbey. This is a city for enjoying the finer things in life.

DAY 2: Viviers

At breakfast time this morning, the ship arrives into Viviers, in the Southern Ardeche. Here you can join an optional excursion which takes you through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Southern France. Your tour will include a visit to one of the numerous caves in the area, such as the Grottes des Madeleines, which has no less than 25 subterranean halls, or the Grotte Chauvet, home to the oldest cave paintings in the world. You will also enjoy a visit to one of the Ardeche's lavender producers to learn about the different types of lavender and their uses. During the course of the evening, your ship continues southwards to the city of Avignon.

DAY 3: Arles

Arles in southern France is the Provençal city par excellence. This sun-drenched city of terracotta-tiled rooftops occupies a broad bend in the River Rhône. Many of its treasure trove of historic gems have been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites and its grand squares and heady Roman past make it a must visit on any Rhône river cruise. Do some parts look familiar? Van Gogh was resident here for a while and painted some 200 works around the town.

DAY 4: Arles - Port St Louis

rles in southern France is the Provençal city par excellence.

Gateway to the Camargue, Port St. Louis is a bustling harbour town with a strong sense of local identity. Scale the Saint Louis tower and soak up the panoramic view across the Rhône region. Where the Petit Rhône and Grand Rhône meet the Mediterranean, the Camargue comes into full force. Picture water-logged rice paddies, salt flats and lakes, spectacular bird life including its iconic pink flamingos, and roaming black bulls and white horses. This is France like you've never seen before.

DAY 5: Avignon

Avignon is one of the most popular ports on A-ROSA’s Rhône cruises and with a roll call of impressive history, it is little wonder. Once centre of the Roman Catholic church, Avignon has been left with an unbelievable legacy that you'll have the opportunity to explore today. The unmissable Palais des Papes in the city's ancient quarter should be high on your list. This spot is the biggest Gothic palace ever built and is ringed by three-metre thick walls. Elsewhere, explore Provençal life at its best, strolling leafy squares and diving into excellent restaurants to sample superb French cuisine.

DAY 6: Tournon/Tain l'Hermitage

This afternoon the ship arrives at Tournon and its twin town of Tain l'Hermitage. Located on either side of the Rhone and connected by a pedestrian bridge, La Passerelle Seguin, both towns have a wealth of attractions. From the medieval castle in Tournon to the epicurian delights of Valrhona chocolate and Hermitage and Crozes Hermitages wines in Tain L'Hermitage, this stop has something for travellers of every taste.

Picturesque Tournon is best enjoyed at full vantage as you glide into it from the river. Bathed in the Rhône region’s mild climate, nature flourishes here, and a stroll in the delightful Le Jardin d’Eden park shows you this pretty place in full bloom. It's a real oasis of relaxation. For nature lovers, it’s also the perfect place for discovering new plants and trees, so prepare to spend a good couple of hours navigating its bountiful beds and trickling waterfalls. Just up the river from Lyon, Tournon also has its own set of highlights to offer culture and history buffs. We know you'll enjoy your day in this special place.

DAY 7: Lyon

This morning your cruise arrives back in Lyon, a stunning city located at the confluence of the Rhone and Saone and you will have the whole day to explore. Here you can choose to join an optional tour of the city by coach, taking in the old town, the so-called Vieux Lyon, which was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvivre and an old silk printing shop. Tonight enjoy a final gourmet dinner on the ship to mark the end of your cruise.
