2027 Itinerary
DAY 1: Duisburg, Germany (Embarkation)
Like Dortmund and Bochum, Duisburg became well known as a major location for the iron and steel industries. Nowadays, this city in the Ruhr region is a scientific hub and home to high-tech companies. Situated right on the Rhine, Duisburg is also one of the world’s most important inland ports.DAY 2: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. Known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’, it has a more urban and international atmosphere than anywhere else in the whole country. Be prepared to be amazed by the fantastic skyline, featuring the the Erasmusbrug bridge. Rotterdam is home to Europe’s largest port, as well as being a major transport hub. It's no surprise that this is a centre of contemporary architecture, featuring the famoust Kijk-Kubus, and the Witte Huis, which was the first skyscraper in Europe. Several impressive new skyscrapers have sprung up over the past 20 years.
DAY 3: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Long before you reach Rotterdam – Europe’s biggest port city – you’ll see its impressive skyline, featuring the Euromast tower and the Erasmusbrug bridge spread out before you. You won’t be surprised to learn that this is a centre of contemporary architecture, home to the famous cube houses with their Kijk-Kubus (show cube) and the Witte Huis (the White House), the first skyscraper in Europe. The home of the continent’s largest sea port is a thriving metropolis that doesn’t scrimp on cutting-edge buildings or show-stopping international flair. Over the past 20 years, a number of impressive new skyscrapers have sprung up – and there’s no sign of this trend stopping soon.
DAY 4: Antwerp, Belgium
Port city, capital of cool and a haven for culture-loving foodies, this unique stop offers you a treasure trove of delights to explore. Starting from its Medieval heart where cobbled lanes bustle with treat-filled cafes, the riverside fortress that looks as though it's been plucked from the pages of a fairy tale, and a truly remarkable cathedral, you'll quickly fall in love with the city's historic highlights. There's so much more to Antwerp though. Long renowned as a hotspot for the jet set and the epicentre of the diamond trade, this progressive place showcases a superb entertainment and arts scene, as well as world-class shopping (just remember your credit card!).
The old harbour area is a fantastic place to take a stroll. It is now a trendy, modern district, with lofts, theatres and night clubs occupying converted warehouse buildings, and luxury yachts from all corners of the world moored at the quay.
DAY 5: Antwerp, Belgium
The port city of Antwerp is an absolute must-see. Rich in art and culture, it is also known as the ‘Diamond City’ due to its important role in the diamond trade. Antwerp is particularly enjoyable for foodies, thanks to the many tasty Belgian specialities on offer there – including waffles, chocolates and chips.
DAY 6: Nijmegen, Netherlands
Step out into a piece of living history today, as you explore Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. Built by the Romans over 2,000 years ago, it's little wonder that they selected this spot. Squeezed between the Rhine, Meuse and Waal rivers in an undulating landscape famed for its excellent wines, hiking and superb natural flora and fauna, this gem of a city features beautifully-preserved buildings laced with museums and superb eateries, great shopping and a real laidback lifestyle. All perfectly enjoyed from your floating A-ROSA hotel.
