DAY 1: AMSTERDAM

We board in Amsterdam around 5.00pm and settle into our cabins. We are introduced to the crew over a welcome cocktail. Dinner on board is followed by an optional tour of the old town of Amsterdam by river boat. We moor for the night in Amsterdam

DAY 2: AMSTERDAM

After buffet breakfast on board, we spend the morning on an optional guided visit of Amsterdam. The historic centre of this beautiful capital city is incredibly rich in history and architecture. We return on board for lunch. This afternoon our optional excursion is to the traditional village of Volendam and to Zaanse Shans, an eco-museum which brings together more than a hundred wooden houses, windmills and warehouses from the 17th and 18th centuries. We return on board for dinner, after which the rest of the evening is free. Alternatively, why not transfer into the centre of Amsterdam (optional - book and pay on board) for a walk through the red light district. We cruise through the night.

DAY 3: VOLENDAM - ARNHEM

After buffet breakfast on board, we arrive in Arnhem around 10.00am. There is free time for independent exploration or join the optional visit of Arnhem and its open-air museum. Created in 1912 in the woods around Arnhem, the museum uses authentic farmhouses, farmyards, objects and true stories from centuries gone by to bring the past to life. We return on board for lunch and our cruise continues in the direction of Middelburg. We have dinner as we cruise and arrive towards the end of the evening in Middelburg, where we moor for the night.

DAY 4: MIDDLEBURG

We set sail early this morning and head towards Middelburg, taking our buffet breakfast on board as we cruise. On arrival, we set off by coach for our optional excursion of the Delta Plan. The Delta Plan was one of the most innovative projects in the world. It came into being after the devastating floods of 1953. Thanks to the construction of dykes, dams, sluices and other building work, the project helps protect the Netherlands from flooding caused by rising sea levels. We also have the opportunity to learn something about the history of its construction as we visit the Delta Park. We return on board for lunch. This afternoon, we have some free time in the small town of Middelburg. We are sure to be enchanted by the beauty and authenticity of the town, by its little streets and canals and also by its rich cultural and architectural heritage. We return to the ship for dinner on board and our cruise continues through the night towards Ghent.

DAY 5: GHENT - BRUGES

After breakfast on board, the morning is spent on our optional tour of Ghent. Founded in the 7th century, Ghent is full of magnificent buildings, most of which date from the Middle Ages. We return on board for lunch after our tour. This afternoon we set off by coach for an optional excursion to Bruges, "Venice of the North". A town known for its lace production and filled with a quaint, old-fashioned charm which has remained intact for centuries, Bruges has been the most important town in northern Europe in the fields of commerce, politics and art for some 200 years. We return to Ghent by coach where we rejoin our ship in time to have dinner on board. Late in the evening, we set sail again towards Antwerp.

DAY 6: ANTWERP - ROTTERDAM

After breakfast on board, the morning is spent on our optional guided visit of Antwerp. This cultural capital has retained a rich architectural heritage. We return on board for lunch and our cruise continues to Rotterdam. We have an afternoon of relaxation on board and have dinner as we cruise. We arrive in Rotterdam during the evening and moor for the night.

DAY 7: ROTTERDAM - UTRECHT - AMSTERDAM

We spend the morning and early afternoon afloat, taking our buffet breakfast and lunch on board as we cruise. We set off by coach on our optional excursion to the magnificent floral gardens at Keukenhof (open from mid-March to mid-May). Here we find a harmonious arrangement of flowerbeds full of bulbs: tulips, narcissi and hyacinths all set in the midst of ancient trees. When Keukenhof is closed, we have an optional visit of Delft and its porcelain factories. During our excursion, our ship continues its journey to Amsterdam where we re-board at the end of the afternoon. Tonight we have a gala dinner on board, followed by an evening of music and dancing. We moor for the night.
