Muirtown to Banavie

Sunday, Day 1 Muirtown

We meet you at the designated meeting place and transfer to Scottish Highlander moored at Muirtown. Champagne welcome and an early evening stroll to the sea lock with wonderful views over the Moray Firth. Dinner on board

Monday, Day 2 Muirtown to Dochgarroch

Depart early for the Royal Dornoch Golf Course (1.5 hour drive) for a round on the Championship Golf Course, one of Scotland's famous links courses designed by Tom Morris. (Tee Time of 11.30am) Dornoch dates from 1616 and is internationally acclaimed. The cruise today will take us up the Muirtown lock flight, then a short trip along the pretty section of canal to Dochgarroch. Dinner on board. Tuesday, Day 3 Dochgarroch to Fort Augustus

After breakfast we transfer to Castle Stuart (20 min drive) where we play on the Championship Links Golf Course overlooking the Moray Firth. Lunch on board and then our cruise today will take us down the world famous Loch Ness with perhaps a chance of spotting “Nessie” before arriving at Fort Augustus. Dinner on board (18 holes, 7009 yards, Par 72: buggies and pull carts available)

Wednesday, Day 4 Fort Augustus

Today you will encounter some of the finest scenery Scotland has to offer. Drive to one of Scotland’s best known and most photographed castle, Eilean Donan, which has featured in many movie scenes. The idyllic setting, betrays the castle’s tactical important as it overlooks three sea lochs. We return to the barge and our cruise will take us up the “flight”, as the locals call it, at Fort Augustus. We then have a round of golf at nearby Fort Augustus Golf Course, probably the only course in the world kept manicured by a herd of sheep! Featuring 9 holes in a challenging canal side setting. This evening we have dinner ashore at a local restaurant. (9 hole, 5,454 yards par 67: pull carts available)

Thursday, Day 5 Fort Augustus to Laggan Locks

On our tour today we will again encounter some of Scotland’s bloody past as we visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness. A short film explains some of the history from St Columba's day to the present with a spectacular finale. A gentle drive will take us back to the Invermoriston Falls and a chance to see the “Old Bridge” designed by one Thomas Telford and if you are very lucky you may even see a salmon leaping. The cruise today will take us all the way through Loch Oich and onto the Laggan Avenue, often described as the prettiest part of the canal. Dinner on board

Friday, Day 6 Laggan to Banavie

After breakfast on board we transfer to Newtonmore Golf course Newtonmore (established 1893) is a comparatively flat, easy-walking, parkland course full of exciting and invigorating challenges. It nestles appealingly in the midst of the Monadhliath and Grampian Mountains and on the banks of the River Spey. Afterwards we return to the Scottish Highlander and cruise to Banavie and Neptune's Staircase of locks. This evening we usually entertain the local piper with a wee dram before the Captain's Farewell Dinner on board. (18 holes, 6041 yards, Par 70, pull carts and buggies available) approx. 30 minute transfer from barge to golf club.

Saturday, Day 7 Banavie

Passengers disembark at 9.15 after a hearty Scottish breakfast for their transfer back to the **designated drop off point by minibus

 

Banavie to Muirtown

Sunday, Day 1 Banavie

We meet you at the designated meeting place and transfer to Scottish Highlander moored at Banavie near Fort William. A champagne welcome is followed by time for a walk or cycle along the towpath before dinner on board.

Monday, Day 2 Banavie to Laggan Locks

After breakfast we transfer to Newtonmore Golf Course. Newtonmore (established 1893) is a comparatively flat, easy-walking, parkland course full of exciting and invigorating challenges. It nestles appealingly in the midst of the Monadhliath and Grampian Mountains and on the banks of the River Spey. After lunch we cruise to Moy Bridge, the last hand operated bridge of its type on the canal and on to Laggan Locks. Dinner on board. (18 holes, 6041 yards, Par 70, pull carts and buggies available) approx. 30 minute transfer from barge to golf club

Tuesday, Day 3 Laggan Locks to Fort Augustus

The cruise today will take us all the way through Loch Oich and onto the Laggan Avenue, often described as the prettiest part of the canal. We cruise through Loch Oich and to the top of Fort Augustus flight. After lunch we will again encounter some of Scotland’s bloody past as we visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness. After lunch we cruise down the “flight” as locals call it, to the bottom of Fort Augustus where you will be able to drink in the charm of this wee highland gem. We then enjoy a round of golf at nearby Fort Augustus Golf Course, probably the only course in the world kept manicured by a herd of sheep! Featuring 9 holes in a challenging canal side setting. Thursday, Day 5 Fort Augustus to Dochgarroch

After breakfast our cruise will take us to the scenic Loch Ness, with a possibility of some “Nessie” spotting before arriving at Dochgarroch. We enjoy lunch on board and then we journey to the Championship Links course Castle Stuart (20 min drive) overlooking the Moray Firth. Dinner on board. Friday, Day 6 Dochgarroch to Muirtown

Depart at early for the Royal Dornoch Golf Course (1.5 hour drive) for a round on the Championship Golf Course, one of Scotland's famous links courses designed by Tom Morris. Dornoch dates from 1616 and is internationally acclaimed. Our cruise today will take us from Dochgarroch to Muirtown, a picturesque and well established marina. Captains Farewell Dinner on board. Saturday, Day 7 Muirtown

Passengers disembark after a hearty Scottish breakfast for their transfer back to the **designated drop off point by minibus

 

On alternative weeks the itinerary is in reverse direction.  This itinerary is subject to change.

 **The designated meeting and drop off point is Inverness

*The Cawdor Castle excursion is between 1st May and 6th October only.  An alternative excursion to Fort George will replace it either side of these dates.  

 

 

NOTES FOR GOLF ITINERARIES
Handicap Certificates are required at most Scottish Golf Clubs and must be shown to the management on arrival. Minimum Handicap allowed is Men 28 and Ladies 36

No jeans or sweatshirts are permitted on the course or in the clubhouses. All footwear must be changed after playing golf before entering the clubhouse lounge or dining room. No alcohol is permitted on the golf courses

Caddies are available at most of the bigger clubs but should be arranged well in advance. Hand trolleys are available for hire at most courses as are golf clubs. Buggies are more common now but walking is still generally the rule in Scotland. If you require a ride-on buggy for medical reasons, it will need to be booked well in advance

Caddies, trolleys and buggies can be pre-arranged by ourselves but should be paid for by yourselves directly to the golf club or caddy. Some courses cannot guarantee trolleys or caddies
