Lord of the Glens
Sailing the inland waterway of the Caledonian Canal from
Inverness to Fort William (Banavie)
including Loch Dochfour, Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy.
This wonderful four night sheltered water cruise takes in a complete transit of the Caledonian Canal from Inverness in the east to Banavie in the shadow of Ben Nevis in the west. The Caledonian Canal makes a meandering course through the Great Glen and is a combination of natural and man-made waterways that include Loch Dochfour, Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy. Our vessel is the deluxe appointed MV Lord of the Glens which commences its voyages at the City of Inverness and then enters the first man-made section of the Canal before entering Loch Dochfour and Loch Ness. Approximately halfway across Loch Ness the vessel pauses for photos in front of the Urquhart Castle before arriving at the picturesque town of Fort Augustus. Leaving Fort Augustus the vessel is lifted by a series of 6 inter-connected locks that run through the centre of the town to another man-made section of the Canal that leads to beautiful Loch Oich and onwards to Lochy to the small town of Banavie in the shadow of Ben Nevis. Here at Banavie see Neptune's Staircase a series of eight interconnected locks that run to the town of Corpach (Fort William). There is much to delight in a cruise through the Great Glen at this time of the year including an abundance of wildlife and the snow-capped ruggedness of the Highland scene. The itinerary also operates alternately in the reverse sequential order.
