7 Nights Heart of the Highlands

A seven night cruise aboard the deluxe MV Lord of the Glens navigating a course through the beautiful Highlands, Islands, Glens and Lochs of Scotland. Cruising Loch Ness, Loch Oich, Loch Lochy, Loch Linnhe, Loch Leven, and Loch Sunart. Visiting Inverness, Fort Augustus, Fort William and Tobermory (Isle of Mull).

 

Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness

Day 1 - Embark Lord of the Glens at the top of the Muirtown Locks in Inverness. Evening Captain’s welcome reception and dinner. Moor Inverness overnight.
 
Day 2 - Drive after breakfast to Culloden Castle and Culloden Battlefield. Sail at lunchtime through a man-made section of the Caledonian Canal to Loch Dochfour and then into Loch Ness. Approximately halfway across the loch pause in front of Urquhart Castle for photos before continuing to Fort Augustus. Later ascend a series of 6 inter-connected locks that run through the centre of the town and moor overnight.
 
Day 3 - Sail after breakfast through various man-made sections of the Caledonian Canal, beautiful Loch Oich and a tree-lined section called ‘Laggan Avenue’. (Those interested in a healthy stroll, can walk the section between Fort Augustus and re-embark at Kytra Locks). Later continue cruising the Caledonian Canal and cross Loch Lochy and onwards to Banavie in the shadow of Ben Nevis. Afternoon visit to Glencoe with its impressive Visitor Centre. Moor Banavie overnight.
 
Day 4 - After breakfast descend ‘Neptune’s Staircase’ a series of 8 inter-connected locks, and two further locks that lowers the vessel to sea level at Corpach. At Corpach enter beautiful Loch Linnhe and into the Sound of Mull to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The afternoon is free to explore the gaily painted houses and shops on the water-front. Moor Tobermory overnight.
 
Day 5 - The whole day is reserved for the visit to the Isle of Iona and Duart Castle. For more than 1000 years, the island of Iona has been a place of deep spiritual significance. No less than 62 Kings of Scotland are buried here, including Duncan, Macbeth’s victim. St Columba came here from Ireland in 563 AD and early Christianity spread through northern Britain from this remote island community. On the return journey visit Duart Castle home of the McClean Clan before rejoining the vessel at Tobermory. Moor overnight.
 
Day 6 - After breakfast re-enter the Sound of Mull and sail northeast around Ardnamurchan Point – the most westerly point of mainland Britain and enter the Sound of Sleat to Armadale on the Isle of Skye. Later visit the famed Clan Donald Centre and Gardens. Moor overnight.
 
Day 7 - Sail in the morning along the Sound of Sleat and Kyle Rhea to Kyle of Lochalsh. Afternoon visit to Inverewe Gardens. Evening Captain Farewell reception and dinner. Moor Kyle of Lochalsh overnight.
 
Day 8 - Disembark after breakfast and drive to Inverness. Parting of the ways.
