DAY 1: AMSTERDAM

Boarding in Amsterdam at 6.00pm and time to settle comfortably in your cabins before meeting the crew during a welcome cocktail reception. Dinner on board followed by an optional river tour of Amsterdam (on a shuttle boat), known as "Venice of the North".

DAY 2: AMSTERDAM - HUIZEN

This morning’s tour will take us through Amsterdam on a tourist tramway to the Jordaan district. From its romantic canals to its world-renowned museums, Amsterdam never ceases to surprise. We’ll visit the city on an old-fashioned tram. Stops include Westerkerk—the biggest church in Amsterdam—regarded by many as the city symbol. We’ll continue on foot to the upscale Jordaan district, brimming with galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and street cafés. The Anne Frank House museum is located close by.

We’ll begin our cruise to Huizen this afternoon. Take part in our onboard lecture, Holland, Land of Water. Enjoy time on your own in Huizen. Huizen was an agricultural village until it began to expand to overcome a housing shortage in the 1960s. Today, it is a delightful mix of old charm and flashy modernity.

We'll enjoy dinner and an evening of entertainment.

DAY 3: HUIZEN - ALMERE OR LELYSTAD - THE FLORIADE - LEMMER

Spend the day at the FLORIADE 2020 EXPO (lunch not included).

The city of Almere will host the six-month International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade Expo beginning on April 14, 2022. The expo celebrates sustainable and green technologies. You’ll discover this living lab using all of your senses. Enjoy the magnificent gardens, interesting symposiums and workshops, fun attractions, tasteful delights, and impressive exhibits. The Floriade hopes to inspire us all to live healthier, more ecologically focused lives. A variety of Dutch and international exhibitors will present their creative, green solutions to help make our cities more sustainable and much nicer to live in.

We’ll return on board the ship in Almere or Lelystad and being to cruise to Lemmer.

DAY 4: LEMMER - URK OR KAMPEN

This morning, join us for a tour of Giethoorn. This idyllic, mostly car-free village is surrounded by waterways, reed beds, and woods. The centuries-old, thatched-roof homes add to its fairytale charm. It’s a perfect example of how present water is in the daily lives of the Dutch people. We’ll enjoy a lovely boat tour on the Giethoorn canals.

The afternoon excursion will be to Urk and Schokland. Urk and Schokland are on the northeastern section of the Markermeer. The two areas are testimony to how the Dutch have struggled to live in harmony with the water for thousands of years. Signs of human habitation in Schokland date back to prehistoric times. Over 160 archaeological sites include churches, homes, businesses, barns, and a former harbor. We’ll visit the museum to learn more about the island’s history. Next stop is the charming fishing village of Urk, which sits on the banks of the Ijsselmeer. Enjoy a stroll through the town and discover its monuments and lighthouse.

We’ll return on board in Urk or Kampen and cruise the Ijsselmeer to the Markermeer. The Ijsselmeer is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Holland. In 1932, the newly built Afsluitdijk closed off the saltwater Zuiderzee effectively causing the inlet to change over the years into the freshwater lake we see now.

DAY 5: AMSTERDAM

This morning’s excursion is dedicated to Haarlem and the Dutch flower auction in Aalsmeer. We’ll leave very early in the morning for the largest flower auction in the world. More than 20 million flowers and plants are sold every day to buyers from all over the world. The flowers are not only from the Netherlands, though, as over 50 different countries also participate. Bidding is fast, and over 100,000 transactions are finalized per day. After our visit, we’ll head over to Haarlem. Haarlem is just as charming as Amsterdam, and just as jam-packed with history. The city’s medieval feel, narrow streets, and small shops give the city a great ambiance.

This afternoon, join us for an excursion to the Keukenhof Gardens.(1) Each spring, more than 7 million tulips—totaling 800 varieties—color the Keukenhof Gardens. Enjoy a tour of the beautiful spring gardens and pavilions bursting with gorgeous hues and alluring scents.

If the park is not open during your cruise, join us for an optional visit to Volendam, famous for its traditional smoked eel, and Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum with over one hundred typical wooden houses, windmills, and warehouses.

Enjoy a free evening to explore Amsterdam on your own.
